On my way to a more renowned spot in Olympic national rainforest, I rushed by this area by without even a glance. Luckily, on my way back I passed this place a second time. A few of my colleagues were completely engrossed in this little creek. In fact, they never even made it to the main attraction on this hike. In my rush to get to the main attraction, I blew by this area and missed beautiful little scenes like this one. I always have to remember to remind myself to slow down, not get tunnel vision, and take in all of my surroundings, especially the quieter ones like these.

Sketches or Photographs? (2of 3) Something I’ve Sketches or Photographs? (2of 3) Something I’ve been striving for in my photography is to show something we all know and recognize in a unique way. Sure this triptych of images are of mountains, but are they also charcoal sketches? Pen and ink drawings? Im not sure, but Ill keep trying to show the obvious in a less obvious way.
As Minor White one said “One should not only photograph things for what they are, but for what else they are.” I had the absolute pleasure of helping run a photo retreat out of the fantastic and unparalleled Deplar Farm last winter. Thanks to our guests for coming out and letting us show you all the amazing things Deplar Farm and the Troll Peninsula has to offer! Looking forward to this winter for another exciting photo retreat :-)

“Fire in the Sky” I found this beautiful coll “Fire in the Sky” I found this beautiful collection of columbine at the base of Teocalli mountain in Crested Butte. I only had a few minutes to set up before the sky exploded in color. This display only lasted about 2 minutes, the light can be pretty fast at high altitudes.

I hoped that I might pass through this storm on my way up valley…My luck was with me this evening. It was still raining a ton at this location where I was shooting, but also strangely calm. Down valley the wall of turbulent clouds were ripping across the sky. I thought a longer exposure would express this nicely.

I waited over a month for the skies to clear, I needed a cloudless blue sky to make these images work properly. At breakfast one morning, I noticed the clouds had gone, and that this was my chance. I rushed out to this secluded beach, carefully walked into the cloudy and turbulent water and started photographing. The water was well over waste deep high with waves rolling in. Needless to say, it was challenging between the waves, the water splashing the camera, the waves moving my tripod and especially the crabs that would come by and clamp down on my toes every few minutes…scared the crap out of me every time! Totally worth all of it! Thanks for looking :-) Fuji XT-5: Converted to Deep B&W Infrared (830nm)
